156 2.0 JTS

I got my car in late 2002. I have experienced several problems that I
explained to my wife as the Italian personalities. The most annoying
one is the error message. Over the last nine months, I almost take
the car back to the workshop every other week for the warning message
of "Motor Control System Failure". Does anyone have similar
experience? Their dealer in Hong Kong seems to have no clue to get it
fixed permanently.

Hi r11567,
It could be a problem with the lambda sensors.
I also hear that these Euro4 spec cars are very sensitive to different
brands of fuel.
(producing errors on some brands but not others)
Fuel also deteriorates over time, try to always fill up from a busy petrol
station that has a fast turnover.
Rather than a very quiet petrol station that could have had fuel sitting in
it's tanks for months.

I have had the same problem on my early JTS (April 2002). The workshop
quickly found it to be related to one of the lamda sensors, and replaced
the faulty one (covered by warranty).

They also said that this is a fairly common problem on the JTS cars.

Bosch -> german quality?

Hi,

The Lambda-sonde problem on the JTS is well known by now (at least in
Holland).

Let your dealer contact any dealer in Holland for detailed info if he
still has no idea what the problem is. It should be easily fixed.

There are also a lot of problems with the power the JTS provides.
Especially in Germany where a lot of JTS's are sold. People report
having only 150-155bhp!! Right now there is no known fix for it.

There was also a known problem with the Variable Intake Manifold. It
was fixed on mine.

QUESTION: I hear a very annoying whining sound when driving between
110 and 130 in any gear. When I suddenly lift the pedal the sound
'stutters'. It's very annoying on longer, steady drives. I also drove
in another JTS which had the same sound. Anybody know what causes it?
The mechanic says it's a 'feature'.

I take it that's 110 to 130 MPH, no? ;-) I bet it takes you ages
to get there with "only" 150-155 bhp! Best regards.

Hi,

I have always thought that my JTS did not have the full 165 bhp, and I have
never had it above 215 km /h on the speedometer and usually it will not pass
207 - it 'feels' to me that on some days it has more power than on other
days! - Don't know if it is over-sensitive to petrol quality or something...

The only real way to know that is to do a test I'm afraid. I also have
the feeling that on some days it's much quicker than on other days.
